Mom had to work today. I took the kids around by myself since the Grandparents were out of town too. Connor had kung fu class in the morning followed by swim class. Collin sat with me and watched his brother. He was good for the most of the day.

When we got home, I pulled out the sofa bed and watched as both Connor and Collin fell asleep. I finally got some rest too.

Kathy and Herman are one of my parents' oldest friends. Kathy was my preschool teacher and often took care of me when I was little.

It's been over 25 years since we finally caught up about a year ago and at least that long since Herman has been back to visit California since moving to Virginia when I was about three years old.

We had a wonderful time over dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Here's Connor finally warming up and having a chat with Kathy and Herman.

The kids at school put on a Mother's Day performance and each class sang a song for the Moms. Most of the kids sang, but Connor was too shy to sing "how sweet it is to be loved by you". He hid behind his friend and teacher for most of the song.

Connor does pretty well his first time. We scheduled all of our appointments this morning. Ivy had her teeth cleaned first and I was second. Connor watched us before getting his own teeth cleaned.

The only thing he didn't like was the taste of fluoride. The hygenist had to polish his teeth with toothpaste.

Learning to Kick a Football

We usually throw the football around on the field at the Avengers' game, but we were told throwing wasn't allowed anymore.

So, I thought we'd try kicking. It was great. I would hold the ball and he would get a running start to kick the ball. His would run about halfway down the field before turning around to come back and kick the ball.

I so wanted to capture the moment and the kids wanted to hold the ball for Connor. He would kick it over and over and over again...until we were told it was time to go.

Na Pu had extra tickets to the Clippers game at the the Staples Center. They were playing Portland.

Connor ate quite a bit. He had a hot dog and lots of cookies. The game was interesting to him until the half. He was a little antsy from all the sugar.

It was a close game I think, but we didn't watch the final minutes because Ivy had to go back to work that night.

One of Connor's favorite treats are the cream puffs from Beard Papa's.

The first time Connor rode the subway, we were on our way to the Beard Papa's at Hollywood and Highland. Since then, whenever the word "train" comes up, he associates it with a trip to Beard Papa's.

Connor and I spent the late morning walking around Hollywood, stopping in at McDonald's and finishing the trip off with not one, but two trips to Beard Papa's.

Connor loves racing cars. It must have started with the old Hot Wheels I gave him to play with. Since then, he can't get enough of anything with four wheels. He watches NASCAR on tv, likes to watch Disney's Cars movie, rides his police car around the house, makes me ride his Lightning McQueen car so he can chase me, begs for a new Hot Wheels everytime we go to the store, and even sleeps with as many cars as he can hold. So, for Halloween, he wanted to be NASCAR's #1 driver, Jeff Gordon.

We went to Disney's California Adventure on Tuesday with Annabelle and Natasha. The Halloween festivities started at 6pm, but we got there after 8pm. Connor usually falls asleep at this time but not tonight. He was so excited and kept thanking us for bringing him to Disneyland.

Once got the trick or treating concept down, he wanted to go around and get as much candy as possible.
He was awake all night and it wasn't until we got to the car did he pass out from all the excitement. see more pics

Visiting Wat Thai for Connor's Birthday

We went to Wat Thai for Connor's birthday today. We got there at 9:30am, which is somewhat early for us, so that we could put food in the monks' bowls as they walked through the temple grounds.

We had to wait a little bit before the monks made it to us. There were lots of people.

There was a line of at least 15 monks. Once they made their way to us, Connor wanted to put every thing he could into their alms bowl.

So what exactly is Connor doing by putting stuff into a bowl? It's a Buddhist tradition and one of the many ways of "merit making". Basically he's doing a good deed by giving food to the monks. It's believed that giving alms and doing good deeds will lead to a better life now and in the next lifetime.

After all the monks walked by, Connor headed up to the temple to have a monk tie a "sai sin", a blessed piece of string, around his wrist. What's the purpose of wearing the string? Nothing really. It's just a blessing received from a respected elder. In most cases, it's blessed and put on by a Buddhist monk.

Some people wear it until it naturally comes apart and falls off believing that a wish you made will come true. It's kind of like blowing out a candle on your birthday.

Yo Ho, Yo Ho - Connor's Pirate Party

Connor turned two today! We celebrated at Uncle Paul's house with a pirate pool party. The little guy loved it.

He didn't have much of a nap before the party, but he still had plenty of energy for swimming and the treasure hunt.

Connor started to slow down by the time he blew out the imaginary candles on his pirate ship cake. He even played a little soccer and had just enough left to open his gifts.

He finally gave out and passed out in the car on the way home. He skipped dinner and didn't wake up until the next morning.

We made it to the Dodger game around 8pm. There were quite a few people from work, but Steve was the first person I recognized.

Connor enjoyed the view for a little while, but started to get antsy after half an hour. We waited in line for a hot dog, but Connor decided to come back because it took too long before we could even order one.

We left early while the game was tied. Connor passed out as soon as the car started rolling and the Dodgers lost by one run.

Connor has been asking for a bike for some time now. Everytime he sees a kid riding a bike he says "I want bicycle too". Well, today was his day.

Mommy brought home the Radio Flyer bicycle and he couldn't wait to bring it down from the car. He wanted to carry it into the house himself. Only when he realized how heavy it was, did he say "Daddy help."

Connor was so excited just to get all the parts out of the box. He insisted on doing it himself and made sure nothing was left behind.

It was tough to get him to eat or do anything else until everything was put together. He had a screwdriver in hand and stuck it into any possible hole in the bike. He was helping me put it together.

Between dinner and his Connor's bath, I think it took us more than two hours to build the bike. Even before we were done, Connor tried to sit on it. He was just soooo ready to ride.

Back and forth through the house. It was close to 11pm before he finally went to sleep.

We put on Connor's yellow shirt (normally worn to commemorate the King's birthday) and took him to Wat Thai to celebrate Thai New Year. He's been here often enough to recognize the large Buddha statue inside, the Guan Yim statue outside, and the two Yuks standing in front on the temple.

Once inside, Connor actually sat still as we prayed and received a blessing from the monks. Before leaving Connor even prayed and made a donation too.

First Day of Pre-School

Connor was groggy but excited for his first day of school. We got there at 7:15am and met one of his teachers and some of his classmates.

We sat with him while he finished his eggo waffles, string cheese and yogurt. He spent a lot of time looking around the room at all the pictures, fishes, and toys.

We didn't have much trouble saying bye. He didn't make much of a fuss at all.

Snow in Big Bear

This was Connor's first trip to see and play in the snow. We drove up to Big Bear with Edna, Felix, Joyce, Steve, Annabelle, Dana, Marty, and Natasha.

It took a little over an hour from Edna's house to Big Bear. We sat with Felix and Edna and met up with everyone else at Paoli's for lunch.

It was almost 3pm by the time we actually headed out for the bunny slopes. We finally found a small hill to trek.

All of us made it up...for a little while. Annabelle stayed for about five minutes because she was sick. Connor and Natasha played for fifteen minutes before we decided to head back.

It was too cold. I think Connor was the only one with the right gear on.

We haven't cut Connor's hair since he was born. It was starting to get shaggy and people were often mistaking him for a girl, even when he was wearing blue.

Auntie Elisa came down for the week and we decided to let her give Connor his very first haircut. It was almost impossible.

Once he woke up from his afternoon nap, we took his shirt off and went outside. It was warm out and we thought that this would be our best opportunity to cut his hair.

He was so fussy. Connor would whine as soon as Elisa tried to snip his hair. We took turns distracting him and holding him. It took nearly an hour for Elisa to trim his hair.

Connor's 11th Month Birthday

Today was a big day for Connor. He swam for the first time and we also celebrated his first Independence Day.

We went to Mike's in the morning to hang out by the pool. He wasn't too excited about the water at first, but he later realized that splashing was fun.

His feet started wrinkling after 10 minutes so we had him sit for a little while. He looked on with his furrowed brow wondering why everyone else was still swimming.

I brought him back into a wading pool which was the perfect size for him. He stood, holding on to the edge with one hand while splashing with the other.

We met up at Brian's in the evening to celebrate Connor's 11th month birthday with his favorite mint chip ice cream and chocolate cake.

Sleeping Alone

We started Connor in his bassinet from the time he was born. We use to roll that thing around the house depending on what time of day it was and where we wanted him to sleep (usually by our bed.

Once he outgrew the bassinet, we should have put him in the crib, but of course, he was too loved to leave alone. So, he slept right between us in our queen sized bed, up until this past Monday, June 24.

9:30pm came around on Monday and we decided to put him in his room, in his crib. We layed him down with his bottle. He finished by 9:45pm. Usually, we give him his binky and pat him for a few minutes before he falls asleep. Not that night.

He didn't sleep right away, but we decided to let him learn to put himself to sleep. It wasn't that long. About eight minutes later, the crying stopped and he was sound asleep.

Tuesday was the same but it was a little shorter. He fell asleep in five minutes. We were lucky Wednesday and Thursday night. Once he was done with his milk, he slept instantly. He spent five minutes crying on Friday before falling asleep.

The mornings aren't bad at all. We have the baby monitor on even though he's just down the hall. He'll usually fuss around 7am. At that time, either Ivy or myself will bring him over to our bed. Ivy will usually change him and I'll make his bottle of milk.

He finishes the eight ounce bottle in about 20 minutes. Sometimes he falls asleep again, but most of the time now, he stays awake until Grandpa arrives at 8am.

We changed it up a little bit this month and had coffee ice cream with white cake. Actually, 31 Flavors ran out of mint chip. Doh. The line was loooong, all the way out the door. The guy behind the counter offered the little guy a sample scoop, but Connor had to turn him down...for now. Just two more months.

From his dimply smile and wagging tongue, you can tell that Connor was still excited to see his cake.

Cruising in his Crib

Connor hasn't crawled forward yet. He manages to kind of scoot backwards. BUT, he cruises! He's been doing it for over a month now.

He goes from one side of the crib to the other, unassisted. In this video, he takes a break from cruising and laughes as he bounces.
